RESTAURANT ON PANAREA

CUSIRITATI A TREASURE CHEST OF FLAVOURS

Cusiritati is a sophisticated restaurant on the island of Panarea, in the Aeolian islands, an archipelago often likened to a beautiful, seductive and enticing woman, a little like the menu offered to its guests by three generations of the Sulfaro family.

Little treasure chests of places, able to tell stories recalling traditions, dreams, visions, landscapes, confidences, both original and heart-warming.
Since 1970, Cusiritati has established itself as a place of promise and endless fascination, expressing the soul and atmosphere of Panarea in every dish.

THE NAME AND THE STORY

In the Sicilian dialect Cusiritati means Curiosity... the curiosity produced by the perfumes from the kitchen of the restaurant of that name, wafted by Marilena Merlino, to spread beyond its doors into the small harbour district of Panarea.
Welcoming its guests, as the perfect host, is Federica, aided by her sister Sabrina who looks after the cellar. A daily presence, though not always in the dining room, is grandmother Amelia, who together with her husband Pino in 1970 decided to turn the terrace of their home, already a destination for family and friends, into a restaurant.

Cusiritati means curiosity,
the Kitchen...

Time passes, but the Cusiritati kitchen has remained somewhere to enjoy tastes, and the pleasure of staying at the table. There are two different menus offered during the day: lunch, with a small set menu, and an à la carte featuring traditional Aeolian and Sicilian dishes, tempting the eye and offering authentic, real flavours, such as fried seafood and roasted redfish.
At dinner, everything changes, the set menu becomes more refined, and the à la carte is influenced by experimentation and seductive flavours, while never abandoning tradition. Tradition remains the fixed point about which everything else revolves. The fish is always from that day’s catch, and many of the ingredients used are local to the Aeolian islands, such as capers from Salina, ricotta from Vulcano, and Lipari honey.

CUSIRITATI IS WOMAN
OUR PHILOSOPHY

The beating heart of Cusiritati is essentially feminine, thanks to the presence of grandmama Amelia, the beacon and custodian of tradition, of Marilena who rules the kitchen and is mother to Federica and Sabrina, the former front of house and the latter sommelier for the Panarea restaurant.
The restaurant and kitchen teams are also mainly female. A happy chance which does contribute to the warm-hearted service offered to guests, who are centre stage, indisputable stars of the beauty which the restaurant terrace spreads before their eyes.

THE CUSIRITATI FAMILY

At Cusiritati, the beating heart is essentially a female one. A handful of women built up the restaurant's identity: Amelia, Marilena, Federica and Sabrina.
Both the restaurant and kitchen teams are also mainly female, and the atmosphere is governed by the fathomless life force of nature on the island of Panarea.
